Counselling Service

The counselling service that I offer is in person in the location of BN8 4LR at the Newick Community Centre, or via Zoom or by telephone. This means that I can work with people from all over the country, including rural areas where people struggle to meet a counsellor face to face. As long as you have a good internet connection and/or a phone signal, then we will be able to work together to help you with your mental health.

The sessions are 50 minutes long at £50. Please enquire for reduced rates for those on low income or students.

Our sessions together should ideally be weekly and the same time and day where possible as this ensures that you will benefit from gaining the full therapeutic experience. However, I can understand that having weekly sessions can sometimes be a struggle, which is why I can offer flexibility to help make it work for you. Please email me for further details regarding concessionary rates.

client testimonial

Chay’s approach to her clients is excellent. In our sessions she has been very patient and made me feel relaxed and comfortable. She is very easy to talk to. I will definitely come back if I will need any more counselling at any point in the future.”

Understanding the counselling modality that I use, Person-Centred

Person-Centred Counselling derived from Carl Rogers a Humanistic Psychologist. He believed that by offering a space where the counsellor is non-judgemental, empathic and congruent (the counsellor being themselves, opposed to a “white coat expert”), then the client will feel accepted, understood and can be completely themselves with the counsellor. When the client is able to be fully themselves and feel accepted just as they are, defence mechanisms lower and the client is able to explore their thoughts, feelings, reflect, gain clarity and make the changes that they need to live an authentic life.

❝The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.❞ –
Carl Rogers

I acknowledge that coming up with words for your feelings or experience can be tricky,  sometimes impossible, which is why I trained in a Creative Counselling Fellowship, so that I can help you find alternative ways for you to express yourself. Working creatively is completely optional as I know that it does not suit everybody, which is perfectly fine. If you are interested in working creatively here are some of the creative ways that we can use: Imagery, Symbols, Objects, Collage, Body talk, Dreams, Creative ways of working with Trauma, Art and Colour, Characters and Fairy Tales and Metaphors. Working Creatively can help bring the unconscious or subconscious into the conscious, which can help make sense and gain clarity of what is happening for you.

In addition, I can offer mindfulness techniques, which can also be a strategy that you can take away with you in between sessions, including: Grounding, Relaxation Techniques and Stabalisation.
